Contributions Limits
You can contribute up to $150,000 each financial year in non-concessional (post-tax) contributions if you meet the eligibility requirements. You will be eligible if:
- we have your tax file number, and
- you are aged 64 or younger, or
- you are aged 65 -74 and you satisfy the 'work test', meaning that you worked 40 hours during a consecutive 30 day period in the relevant financial year.
The Trustee will return the contributions to you without interest if
- aware you have exceeded the cap
- you have not provided your tax file number
- you are 75 or older, regardless of your work situation
These limits currently apply to the 2010/11 financial year and may be indexed for future years.
Limits also apply to concessional (pre-tax) contributions; amounts contributed above $25,000 (or $50,000 for members over 50 until 30 June 2012) will count towards your non-concessional cap.
You should also be aware that if you have not provided your Tax File Number to AvSuper all salary sacrifice and employer (concessional) contributions may be taxed at the top marginal rate plus the Medicare Levy, currently 46.5%. This tax may be recovered if you provide your TFN within three years.
